Chiefs guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif out ‘4 to 6 weeks’ with hand injury

The Kansas City Chiefs will be without one of their members along the offensive line for the remainder of training camp and the pre-season.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reports guard Laurant Duvernay-Tardif broke a bone in his hand during practice on Tuesday. A source close to the situation told Rapoport the injury will keep Duvernay-Tardif out of football for the next four to six weeks.

Duvernay-Tardif missed his first training camp practice of the 2021 season on August 6 and had since been seen with a light workload close to the trainer’s tent with a wrap around his right hand. Before the injury, Duvernay-Tardif has been working with the second-team as the right guard behind first-team rookie Trey Smith.

In his report, Rapoport added there’s still a slight chance LDT could return to the Chiefs in time for their Week 1 showdown with the Cleveland Browns, depending on how his injured hand heals.

Duvernay-Tardif started 57 games for Kansas City from 2015-2019 before opting out of the 2020 NFL season to remain in his hometown in Quebec, Canada to fight against the spread of COVID-19.
