Chiefs Exec. Ryan Poles hired to be Chicago’s next GM

According to a report from NFL Insider Ian Rapoport Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs are losing a member of their executive department.

The Chicago Bears have reportedly hired now-former Kansas City executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles as their next general manager.

Poles, 36, was a finalist for the Carolina Panthers’ GM job last season and was first targeted by the New York Giants this year to fill their vacant GM position, but they wound up going in a different direction, hiring Joe Schoen.

Then came two NFC North teams, Chicago and Minnesota, for Poles’ services. In the end, the Bears locked him up before the Vikings could arrange a second interview.

Poles spent 13 seasons with the Chiefs, starting in 2009 as a scouting assistant, and gradually worked his way up to his current position.

When Brett Veach was hired to be Kansas City’s general manager, Poles was Veach’s right-hand man in college scouting and during draft season. As of late, he’s helped assemble Kansas City’s highly successful draft classes in recent years, including this season as rookies such as Nick Bolton, Creed Humphrey, and Trey Smith have made an enormous impact on the field.

It’s no wonder the Bears hired him.
