Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones is known as one of the most dominant defensive linemen on the field and for his outspoken, charismatic personality off the field.
On Tuesday, Jones put reporters on notice about his feelings about the Pro Bowl and where his team’s priorities are after the regular season.
Jones, arguably the most ferocious defensive player in the league, was voted to his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl following a 2024 campaign at registered 37 tackles and five sacks.
Jones was asked to share his thoughts on being a six-time Pro Bowler. – his response was brutally honest.
“I don’t really care about Pro Bowls,” Jones began. “When you think about it, I had 15.5 sacks my third year in the league and didn’t even make the Pro Bowl. That’s when I stopped caring about the Pro Bowl,” he explained.
Jones explained he prefers All-Pros over Pro Bowl selections because they carry more merit with them. Jones says it boils down to who’s behind the voting process that dictates who goes to the Pro Bowl and who earns an All-Pro.
“All-Pro is important to me because that means you’re the best at your position,” Jones continued. “That is a respect thing from your peers and league executives. But the Pro Bowl…I felt like it’s a popularity contest,” he said.
The persons behind the All-Pro votes include fellow players from around the NFL, league executives, and highly respected sports journalists from outlets like the Associated Press. Meanwhile, the fans vote on who goes to the Pro Bowl, so it’s easy to understand where Jones is coming from.
Since the Super Bowl participants can’t attend the Pro Bowl because it’s typically played the Sunday before the big game, Chiefs players who were voted to the Pro Bowl haven’t attended because they were competing for a championship in four of the last five seasons. But Jones says the Chiefs would have it any other way.
“They can keep all the Pro Bowls they want. We care about Super Bowls here. That’s what we play for and that’s what we care about and that’s the most important thing.”
Jones is one of five total Chiefs players to be voted to the 2025 Pro Bowl. Teammates Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith, Joe Thuney, and Travis Kelce, were voted to the AFC roster. But the Chiefs have bigger plans this postseason with the chance to three-peat on the horizon.
