Chiefs DE Charles Omenihu returns from suspension

The Kansas City Chiefs went the first six weeks of the 2023 campaign without one of their marquee free-agent signings from the off-season. The team officially welcomes the return of defensive end Charles Omenihu for Week 7 as they prepare for the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chiefs won five of their first six games while Omenihu was absent. Now, they’ll get an extra boost on defense with another veteran pass rusher to add to their arsenal.

Omenihu was suspended for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The incident that led to the suspension is from a domestic violence case in January while the four-year pro was still a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

Police were called to Omenihu’s home in San Jose, where a woman claiming to be the defensive end’s girlfriend said Omenihu pushed her to the ground during an argument. According to police, there were no visible signs of injuries. However, Omenihu was booked into the Santa Clara County jail shortly before posting bail.

Omenihu also posted another X message of a picture of a storm outside his window. Probably to insinuate that a storm is coming now that his suspension is over.

Omenihu agreed to a two-year, 16-million dollar contract with Kansas City during the free agency period in March. He was allowed to participate in all of the Chiefs’ OTAs, training camp, and preseason games. He’ll make his Chiefs debut in Week 7 when they take on the L.A. Chargers.

The former Texas Longhorn was drafted in 2019 by his hometown Houston Texans. In 2021, he was traded to the 49ers, where he played a season and a half before signing with the Chiefs.
