Chiefs claim DB Darius Rush off waivers.

Now that the Kansas City Chiefs have established their initial 53-man active roster for the start of the 2023 NFL season, the team has moved onto the next phase: building its 16-man practice squad. Kansas City also dipped into the pool of free agents on the waiver wire and picked up a castaway defensive back from the AFC South.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs signed former Indianapolis Colts DB Darius Rush on Wednesday. The team waived defensive tackle Matt Dickerson to make room for him on the active roster.

Rush was drafted Indy’s 2023 fifth-round draft pick from this past spring. He spent three seasons at South Carolina before getting drafted by the Colts, only to spend the summer with the team before getting waived from the group.

In college, Rush was a standout player for the Gamecocks. Standing at 6-feet-2-inches and 198- pounds, Rush recorded 38 tackles, seven passes defended, two interceptions, and a forced fumble in his final year season.

Rush was a surprise release yesterday during final cuts and could be a steal if he gets a chance to play on Steve Spagnuolo’s defense.
