Chiefs’ Chris Jones fined for unsportsmanlike conduct against Colts

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones is one of the most firey d-linemen in the National Football League and is known for trash talking while he and his defensive teammates are on the field. But last week against the Indianapolis Colts, Jones took things a step too far in the eyes of the officials.

After linebacker Nick Bolton sacked Colts quarterback Matt Ryan to force a 4th and 15 late in the fourth quarter, Jones exchanged some words that the refs considered ‘hateful’ and ‘abusive,’ thus, throwing a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The penalty erased the sack and led to an automatic first down that kept the Colts’ final drive alive and eventually ended in the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.

The entire football world spent the following week wondering what Jones said to Ryan. Whatever it was, the league fined Chris Jones $10,069 on Sunday, according to NFL Insider Tom Pellisero.

Kansas City outmatched the Colts by a mile on paper and had a chance to advance to 3-0 on the season if not for an abundance of miscues that led to the surprising 20-17 loss. For one reason or another, nothing appeared to go the Chiefs’ way, and Jones’ penalty was what ultimately cost his team the game.

The Chiefs will have a chance to get that bad taste out of their mouths when they face Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football.
