Chiefs activate Morris Claiborne onto the active roster

Cornerback Morris Claiborne returns to the Chiefs active roster after serving a four-game suspension that has kept him away from team operations through the first quarter of the season.

In order to make room for Claiborne on the 53-man roster, the team’s official twitter page reports that Kansas City has released backup guard Jeff Allen.

This marks the end of Allen’s third stint with the Chiefs during his eight seasons in the NFL that originally began in Kansas City when the Chiefs drafted him 44th overall in 2012. Allen spent his first four seasons with the Chiefs before departing in free agency to sign a four-year deal with the Houston Texans in 2016.

Unfortunately, Allen was released after two seasons due to injuries.

Andy Reid welcomed Allen back for a second stint last October because of injuries along the Chiefs offensive line in 2018. Allen fell back into the free-agent market at the end of last season and was re-signed by the Chiefs last August to provide depth on the o-line while also competing for a spot on the roster during training camp and preseason.

Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne will take his place on the active roster after serving a four-game suspension that was handed to him by the league before he originally signed with the Chiefs.

Claiborne will reunite with safety Tyrann Mathieu for the first time since their college days at LSU and this Sunday night against the Colts could be the soonest both players will play on the same defense for the first time at the professional level.

Claiborne was drafted 6th overall in 2012 by the Dallas Cowboys and spent the first five seasons of his career playing for Jerry Jones and totaled 126 solo tackles, 25 assists, 4 interceptions, and 4 fumble recoveries for 50 yards and one touchdown.

He left Dallas for the New York Jets in 2017 and in two seasons, accounted for 100 combined tackles and three interceptions for 45 yards and a pick-six.

Claiborne will hopefully be the missing piece the Chiefs are looking for to help improve their young secondary that currently ranks 20th in the NFL with 1,035 yards allowed through the air in the first four games.
