Chiefs’ 2021 opponents have been revealed

The 2020 season will be a memorable one for the Kansas City Chiefs, who hold a franchise-best 14-1 record with still one game remaining on the schedule. So far, Kansas City has won the AFC West division for a fifth consecutive season and has once again locked up home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.

While the Chiefs’ 2020 campaign isn’t fully written, the team’s opponents for 2021 have already been revealed per Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest.

Of course, the Chiefs will play their traditional six division games against the Las Vegas Raiders, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Chargers, playing each team twice.

At home, Kansas City will welcome the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and Buffalo Bills.

While road games will have Kansas City traveling to Baltimore, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Washington, and the winner of the AFC South.

The Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts are currently tied for the division lead. However, Tennessee can win the South with a victory over Buffalo this Sunday.

The 2021 season will also introduce a 17th slate of games as part of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the NFL and NFLPA. The plan to expand the regular-season was put in place to offset the loss of revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That means fans will see 272 games next season instead of the traditional 256.

According to NFL reporter Albert Breer, the 17th game will be inter-conference matchups between AFC and NFC opponents of like-standing in their respective divisions. The schedule rotation will begin with the AFC West playing the NFC North, scheduling the Chiefs to host the Green Bay Packers at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs still have plenty of work to do in 2020, but it’s always fun to look ahead to get a peek at what will be in store when the new season rolls around next fall.

Hopefully, by that time, fans will be able to take off the masks for good and will be allowed to pack Arrowhead to welcome our (fingers crossed) two-time defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
