Charvarius Ward to sign with the San Francisco 49ers

It didn’t take long for former Chiefs cornerback Charvarius Ward to receive his mega payday. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reports the San Fransico 49ers have signed him to a three-year deal worth $40.5 million.

Ward, 26, came off of his best season as a pro in 2021, recording a career-high 67 tackles (48 solo), 10 passes deflections and two interceptions. He also allowed a 51.3% completion percentage, which was the best amongst the other Chiefs defensive starters last season.

Ward began his pro career as an undrafted free agent with the Chiefs after he was waived by the Dallas Cowboys in 2018 and eventually worked his way to become Kansas City’s starting corner the last three seasons.

The fifth-year corner took to Twitter to say his final goodbye to Chiefs Kingdom.

Ward’s departure means the Chiefs will be in the market for a new starting corner that will line up alongside L’Jarius Sneed.
