Andy Reid comments on Travis Kelce’s frustration vs. Jaguars

The Kansas City Chiefs ground out a gritty victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, and for the second consecutive week in a row, the offense struggled to click. Week 2 also marked the return of tight end Travis Kelce since he hyperextended his knee two weeks ago.

While Kelce finished with four catches for 26 yards and a score, the veteran tight end let his emotions get the better of him during the defensive slugfest. Kelce’s antics earned the Chiefs two penalties and led to a brief altercation with Jacksonville safety Rayshawn Jenkins.

On Monday, head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters regarding his tight end’s behavior.

“Yeah, Travis was fighting Travis. I mean, it was hot,” Reid explained. He was getting ‘butched,’ we call it, where they try to bang you up there one way or another. And, you know, he’s trying to get back in the flow. And so he is a perfectionist, this guy. And you know, if he feels these off a tick, then he’s going to try to battle through, he gets himself in the right mindset to keep fighting through it, and he did. You gotta give him credit. He battled through the thing. He made some big catches for us, and he made it through the game after missing the first one, so I’m sure his leg probably didn’t feel 100%. But he’s not gonna let you know that. And he’s gonna work through it. That’s what he did.”

Kelce has been known for letting his emotions get carried away at times. However, having a bad day while spending a prolonged time in excessive heat can do that to a person. Luckily, the temps should be much cooler when Kansas City hosts the Chicago Bears at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium this weekend.
