Chiefs bring back RB Spencer Ware

In wake to the recent injuries to the running back position, the Kansas City Chiefs bring an old friend back to One Arrowhead Drive by signing running back Spencer Ware.

The running back room in Kansas City thinned out after Darrel Williams suffered a scary hamstring injury that looked like a hyperextension on the field. Damien Williams also isn’t to full form yet, still dealing with bruised ribs.

Since all signs point to both the William’s not being able to play in the Chiefs upcoming test against the Patriots on Sunday, it makes sense to add a running back who not only will provide depth but also knows Andy Reid’s offensive scheme.

Ware originally began his NFL career with Kansas City in 2015 when Jamaal Charles tore his ACL during that season. Ware and Charcandrick West split the load running the football the rest of the year and Ware finished the ‘15 season with 403 yards off 72 carries and six touchdowns.

Ware spent the next two seasons with Kansas City before deciding to test free agency during the 2019 offseason. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts back in late April but wound up on the team’s physically unable to perform list (PUP) on August 2 after undergoing ankle surgery and was eventually released by the Colts on September 20.

Ware has since been without a team until he got a call from the Chiefs earlier today.

Ware likely won’t be getting any handoffs immediately but will serve in a depth role behind LeSean McCoy and Darwin Thompson.
