Chiefs trade for edge rusher Cameron Thomas

The Kansas City Chiefs made a slew of roster moves this week while they were trimming the roster down from 90 players to 53. One of those moves was a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to acquire edge rusher Cameron Thomas for a seventh-round draft pick.

The move gives the Chiefs more pass-rushing depth to compensate for defensive end Charles Omenihu starting the season on the Reserved Injured / Physically Unable to Perform list.

Thomas was a third-round draft selection of the Cardinals in 2022. While in the desert, Thomas appeared in 32 games and registered 40 total career tackles and three sacks.

Last season, he finished with just 22 tackles and a fumble recovery he returned for a touchdown. Overall, he wasn’t incredibly productive while with the Cardinals. However, it’ll be interesting to see what defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo can get out of him with all of his creative defensive schemes.

For the most part, Thomas serves the Chiefs as a rotational guy who can help get after the quarterback. He should also see a little more success now that he’s around more talent than what was in Arizona.
