Chiefs rookie Jaden Hicks describes being mentored by safety Justin Reid

Kansas City Chiefs rookie defensive back Jaden Hicks is one of several young players on the team’s 90-man roster competing to make the final 53.

Last weekend in Jacksonville was his first taste of playing on an NFL field. After practice this week, Hicks spoke to reporters and reflected his experience from last Saturday.

“It was amazing seeing all the guys getting ready for the game,” said Hicks. “Getting all the jitters out as well. But yeah, it was good. Good atmosphere.”

Hicks finished his first preseason tilt with three tackles. As he continues to develop, Hicks mentioned safety Justin Reid has been a great mentor for him. The veteran safety is currently on the PUP list, but is still doing his part to show one of the young guys how to be a successful defensive back in the NFL.

“He’s been amazing so far, coaching me, learning what he’s learning. He’s showing me how to see plays and attack block stuff like that. So he’s been such a helpful guy in the room.” Hicks explained, who anticipates Reid’s full return to contact practices soon. “[He] put the helmet on today.”

Reid being a mentor for Hicks is just another example of a veteran helping out a young player trying to make it at the next level. Which is a testament to the outstanding culture the Chiefs have inside their locker room instilled by head coach Andy Reid.
